Ethereum Price Faces $2,800 Wall Again — Are Whales Selling or Accumulating ETH?
Ethereum price is hitting the same $2,800 hurdle again, but the latest on-chain signals suggest the battle is getting more intense beneath the surface. Large ETH transactions have surged, older coins are moving again, while exchange-held supply continues to trend lower. At the same time, holder profitability is recovering even as market sentiment weakens. ETH has repeatedly failed to turn $2,800 into support, raising a bigger question for the next move: are whales preparing to sell into resistance, or are they positioning for the breakout?
Whale Transactions Surge as Dormant ETH Starts Moving
Whale Transaction Count has recorded sharp spikes as ETH moved toward the $2,800 region. The latest surge shows a clear increase in transactions above $100,000, putting large holders at the center of the current resistance battle.
Age Consumed is showing a similar burst of activity. Several large spikes appeared during the latest recovery, indicating that previously dormant ETH has started changing addresses again.
The combination puts older and larger holdings in motion at the same time ETH is testing resistance. Recent wallet activity also points to active accumulation: an ICO-era wallet bought 8,492.8 ETH for roughly $23.7 million at around $2,794, while another whale accumulated 1,486 ETH for about $4 million near $2,710.

Exchange Supply Falls as Long-Term ETH Becomes More Active
ETH Supply on Exchanges has continued moving lower across the broader period, but displaying a significant spike alongside ETH price recovery toward the $2,700–$2,800 area. The latest readings remain close to the mid end of the displayed range.

90-day Mean Dollar Invested Age, meanwhile, declined through much of September before beginning to stabilize. The falling trend indicates that older invested capital became more active during Ethereum’s recovery.
Large-wallet exchange flows reinforce the supply trend. Tracked ETH whales withdrew approximately $3.20 billion from exchanges and deposited $1.34 billion during the 30 days through October 1, leaving a net $1.86 billion more ETH moving out than in. The supply picture therefore remains tighter even as whale activity increases.
MVRV Recovers as Market Sentiment Loses Momentum
The 30-day MVRV has recovered slightly alongside ETH’s move back toward $2,800, showing that recent holders are moving deeper into unrealized profit as price rises.

Weighted Sentiment, however, has weakened after several failed attempts to sustain a breakout. Social positioning has therefore cooled while holder profitability has improved.
This creates an important setup around $2,800. Rising MVRV can increase the amount of profitable supply available for profit-taking, while weaker sentiment can limit fresh speculative demand. A sustained price breakout would need buyers to absorb that pressure.
Ethereum Price Analysis: $2,800 Is Still the Breakout Gate
ETH is trading around $2,675, after repeatedly testing the $2,750–$2,800 resistance zone. Ethereum formed a broad double bottom around the $1,600 area before reclaiming the $2,000 region and breaking through the next resistance cluster around $2,400–$2,500. The latest move has brought ETH directly beneath the major upper supply zone.

A decisive daily close above $2,800 would confirm a fresh breakout and put $3,000 back in focus. A move through $3,000 would then expose the next major supply region visible on the higher range. On the downside, $2,600–$2,650 is the first area to defend. Losing that zone would bring the $2,400–$2,450 breakout region back into play.
Are Whales Selling or Accumulating ETH?
The current on-chain setup leans toward accumulation rather than a broad whale exit. Whale Transaction Count and Age Consumed show heavy activity, but Exchange Supply continues to decline instead of building a sustained sell-side balance. Recent large-wallet purchases also show fresh demand near the $2,700–$2,800 region.
The main pressure point is $2,800. ETH needs to absorb the supply around this level and hold above it to confirm that whale activity is supporting the breakout. Another rejection, particularly with rising MVRV and renewed Age Consumed spikes, would increase the risk of profit-taking and push ETH back toward its lower support zones.
